How far is too far?

You would have guessed that I watched Sex and the City movie and you know those totally iconic Dior shoes Carrie wears, well I was browsing on the internet and researching and whatever, but I managed to find a really copycat version by Steve Madden and I was actually very pleased with myself, like really; How often is it that one will find a pair of very similar designer heels (or threads) for a fraction of genuine price, I mean; it is a one off isn't it? But then to my disgust, I also found a copycat version of the Balenciage buckle shoe which was memorable in its Fall 07 collection and I suppose, to find another one of them NOT by Balenciaga is no coincedence and just absolutely distasteful. Soon after I managed to find Stella McCartney copycats, Chloe copycats, even the Yves Saint Laurent copycat and that is when I realised how totally deliberate these "Inspired" by items are. I mean, what happened to chainstores providing quality goods which were inspired by but were still a very original piece? I remember those days when you could get a pair of awesome looking shoes from a chainstore which featured elements of the runway trends but still kept the look fabulously affordable and fabulously unique. Is it right to be taking such close copies of designer shoes and making it your own? I'm interested in your thoughts. And I may have just figured out what next week's fashion debate topic is...any ideas?

Ps; Guess which is real and which is a copycat version.
